Phuket Island has many interesting places to visit, many of which are easy to go to by motorbike or car. Please take the time to explore and you will be rewarded by sights and lasting impressions of the present and the past.
Prom Thep Cape Promthep is a headland stretching into the sea and forming the extreme south-end of Phuket. It has been a prominent feature for mariners since of early seafarers from the sub-continent, remains of whose journey’s have been found all along the Malay-peninsula’s west coast.
Chalong Temple Is about 20 mins by car from your villa. This is where stands the cast statue of Luang Por Cham, Who helped the people of Phuket put down the Ahngyee or Chinese Coolie, rebellion in 1876 during the reign of Rama V. There are also statues of Luang Por Chuang, and Luang Por Gluam, other monks who were abbots of the temple during later times and who are the objects of respect and recipients of offerings by Phuket people generally.
Phuket FantaSea Inspired by Thailand’s rich and exotic heritage, Phuket FantaSea not only showcases the charm and beauty of Thailand, but also enriches ancient Thai traditions with the wonder of cutting edge technology and special effects. The result is a stunning 140-acre theme complex, packed with a multitude of activities and entertainment: a Carnival Village with carnivals, games, handicrafts and shopping; a 4,000-seat restaurant offering a grand buffet of Thai and international cuisine
Phuket Zoo See some interesting Thai animal and enjoy some of the show like; Thai elephant show, Monkey show, crocodile show, bird etc. which you and your family can easily enjoy.
Patong Beach This is Phuket’s central tourist and night time entertainment district. There are virtually every kind of entertainment imaginable awaits visitors, with bars catering to every nationality. Live music can be found in many places, and there are also discotheques.
Rawai Beach Site of a Chao Ley or Sea Gypsy village, many restaurants and bungalows, shell handicraft shops, and both fishing and charter boats. The waters are okay for swimming snorkelling on the reefs off shore. Rawai is 7 kms. west of Chalong Circle.
Nai Harn Beach A popular swimming beach and yacht anchorage during the dry season. The beach is fine but big waves strike it during the wet season, making swimming dangerous. Nai Harn is just north of Prom Thep Cape.
Coral Island or Hey Island This island off Phuket’s south coast is so well known for its coral reef that it is often referred to simply as Coral island. In addition to the splendid reefs there are two fine beaches on the north and west. Koh Heh is part of a marine preserve, but accommodations, restaurants, various water sports, and diving are all available.
Raya (Racha) Yai Island On the west coast is a fine beach closed in by the hills that stretch away from it like two arms of a horseshoe called alternately Ao Tawan Tok or Ao Bungalow. The sands are sparkling clean and the water is crystal clear like those of the Similan Islands. From the top of a hill on the bay’s south is a viewpoint from which the whole island can be seen. On the east, at Ao Kon Kae Bay is a coral reefed where diving is excellent.
The Phi Phi Islands The Phi Phi islands are although technically part of a national park, the islands have been developed almost as long as Phuket. There are two main islands in the group. Only the largest, Phi Phi Don, is inhabited. The smaller island, Phi Phi Lay, is spectacular in its own right. Phi Phi was renowned for the clearness of its water and the beauty of its corals.
Phang Nga Bay You would still see the infamous "James Bond Island" but there are a dozen more truly beautiful and unique spots. You can explore the exquisite beauty of the limestone rocks and caves by the sea canoes. You can ride on a large boat up into the bay. At selected places, the boat stops and you get off the big boat onto the sea canoes, two tourists and one guide to each canoe. The guide does all the work. You just have to keep your camera dry.
The sea canoe tours allow you to see things you can't see from the big tour boats, such as the mangrove forests and the many caves hollowed out in the islands. The centre of many islands have collapsed, leaving small lakes open to the sky and fantastic formations of rock. These are usually only reachable through small caves opening into the sea. Some of these can only be entered when the tide is low. It’s definitely not an adventure for the claustrophobic!
Phang Nga Bay is really a "must see" sight. There are very few places in the world with a landscape like Phang Nga. |
